Double-faced wool · Guangzhou, China

Double-faced wool coats, made to your label.

We make one style — the double-faced wool long coat — for brands, wholesalers and private-label buyers in the US, Canada and Australia. Two faces of cloth joined into one garment: no lining, the edges are the finish, and the label inside is yours.

Navy double-faced wool long coat, belted, worn over a roll neck

01 · The coat, in motion

What a still cannot show.

Twenty seconds of the coat walking: how the cloth falls, where the belt sits, how the collar stands when the coat is open. Sound is off by default — turn it on if you want it.

Shot on a model, not a mannequin. If you need a specific detail — the split edge, the inside face, a buttonhole — ask and we will shoot that for you.

02 · The cloth

Two faces of cloth, one garment.

Double-faced wool is not a coat with the lining taken out. It is a different construction, and most of what a buyer can see and touch depends on how it is joined.

01

No lining, by construction

Two woven faces are joined into a single cloth. The inside of the coat is a finished face, not a lining, so there is nothing to bag out, nothing to twist, and nothing that rubs against a shirt.

02

The seam is the garment

Edges are split, folded and joined, either by hand with an invisible stitch or on a machine built to copy it. Open the coat and you are looking at that seam. It is where quality is decided, and where cheap work shows.

03

Reversible, if you want it

Because both faces are finished, a coat can be made reversible. It changes the construction, the trims and the price — quoted before sampling, not after.

03 · The workshop

Ninety seconds on the floor.

Cutting, sewing and the sample room in Guangzhou — raw footage, filmed as a buyer would walk it. If you want to see a specific operation, ask and we will film that instead.

04 · Specification

What is fixed, and what is yours to set.

Every line below is agreed on a spec sheet before the sample is cut. Dashed items are confirmed per order, not assumed.

05 · What you can change

Six decisions, all made before sampling.

These are the variables that move the price and the calendar. We quote them up front rather than discovering them after the first sample.

01

Length and volume

Knee, mid-calf or cropped; straight, A-line or belted. Pattern and consumption are set from your measurement chart, not from a stock block.

02

Lapel and collar

Notch, peak, shawl, stand collar or collarless. On double face the lapel is folded from the same cloth, so the shape has to suit the weight.

03

Weight of cloth

[380] g/m² drapes and travels light; [620] g/m² holds a shoulder and a sharp fold. The same pattern behaves differently in each.

04

Hand-joined or machine-joined

Machine is faster, even, and cheaper. Hand is invisible at the curves and softer on the roll. We show both on the first sample and price them separately.

05

Reversible or single-faced

A genuinely reversible coat needs both faces finished, different pocket bags and different trims. It is a second construction, not an option on this one.

06

Trims and labels

Buttons, belts, pocket shapes, your main and care labels, hangtags and polybags. Sourced to your spec or from our regular suppliers.

06 · Colourways

The shades the cloth is run in.

Shown so you can judge the shade, not to promise stock. Custom dyeing is quoted per colour with a lab dip approved before bulk.

07 · How it is made

Five steps, and the third one is the whole coat.

The edge is not hemmed and covered — it is opened, folded back into the cloth and closed again, by hand or machine.

Close view of the belt end and front edge on a navy double-faced coat
The belt end and the front edge are the same construction: no hem, no lining, the cloth folded back on itself and closed.
STEP 01

Cut in pairs

Two faces are cut as one, matched for grain and shade. A panel that is off-grain cannot be fixed at the seam.

STEP 02

Split the edge

The seam allowance is split between the two faces, by hand or on a splitting machine, so each side folds back on itself.

STEP 03

Fold and join

The raw edge is folded in and closed with an invisible stitch — hand for the curves, machine for the long runs.

STEP 04

Press as you go

Each seam is pressed as it closes, not at the end. A double-faced seam pressed late shows a ridge forever.

STEP 05

Finish

Buttonholes, buttons, pocket mouths, labels and a final press. Then the coat is measured against the approved sheet.

08 · Before it is packed

What we check, and what you can check.

Inspection is on the table for every order, and a third-party inspection is welcome at your cost. What usually fails a double-faced coat is not the sewing — it is the seam closing, the pressing and the matching of the two faces.

We work to [AQL 2.5] on major defects unless your order says otherwise, and we photograph the bulk against the approved sample before it is packed.

  • Seam closure — closed along its full length, no gap at curves, corners or pocket mouths.
  • Both faces clean — no chalk, oil, needle marks or shine from the iron.
  • Grain and shade — matched across panels, nap direction consistent on collar and lapel.
  • Measurements — against the approved spec sheet, point by point.
  • Trims — buttons, buttonholes and pockets tested; labels correct for the market.
  • Pressing — no ridge along the joined edge, no mark where the clapper sat.

09 · Packing and shipping

Packed the way your warehouse wants it.

Flat pack[polybag, X pcs per carton], folded to your measurement; tissue at the collar and the buttons.
Hanging[on request, added cost], on your hanger or ours.
Carton marksYour shipping marks, or ours if you have none.
ShippingAir or sea, on your forwarder or ours. [FOB Shenzhen / Guangzhou]; EXW on request. We ship to the US, Canada and Australia regularly — ask for the current transit times.
DocumentsInvoice, packing list, [CO / Form A on request].

10 · Price and terms

The numbers a buyer asks for first.

Indicative price per piece. The cloth, the weight and the finishing decide the number — hand-joined and machine-joined edges are not the same price.

Indicative price · per piece

200–499 pcs[US$ —]

11 · How we work

Four steps, no surprises at the end.

STEP 01

Brief

Tech pack, reference sample or a drawing. We come back with what is makeable, what it costs and what we would change.

STEP 02

Sample

First sample in [X] working days. One round of revision before you approve; the spec is locked after that.

STEP 03

Approval

You approve the sample and the spec sheet. Bulk is made to that sheet and to nothing else.

STEP 04

Production

Bulk in [X] days after approval, [FOB port]. Third-party inspection is welcome at your cost.

12 · Questions buyers ask

The short answers.

What is the minimum order?

[MOQ] pieces per style, [per colour]. Below that the cutting and the seam work stop being economical, and we would rather tell you now than quote a number we cannot hold.

Can you make it in fabric I supply?

Yes. Send the mill's article number, composition and weight, and a metre or two for the sample. If the cloth is too loose or too heavy for the seam, we will say so before cutting — that is a construction problem, not a price problem.

Hand-joined or machine-joined — which should I choose?

Machine for volume and consistency, hand for the curves and for a coat that will be looked at closely. Many buyers machine the long straight runs and hand the collar roll and pocket corners. We quote both and show the difference on the first sample.

How long does a sample take?

[X] working days after the fabric is confirmed. One round of revision is included; after you approve the sample the spec is locked and bulk is made to that sheet.

Can I have my own label, hangtag and packaging?

Yes — main label, care label, hangtag, polybag and carton marks are all yours. We follow the labelling rules of the market you sell into, including fibre content and care symbols.

Do you make a fully reversible coat?

Yes, but quote it separately. Both faces have to be finished, the pockets are doubled and the trims change; it is a different construction from the standard single-faced double cloth.

13 · Contact

Send the spec. We will quote the sample.

WhatsApp is fastest for a first conversation. Email is better for tech packs, drawings and fabric references — attach the reference sample photos, the quantity and the size range.
